KAPES Version 10
As reported in previous newsletters KAPES Version 10 has been developed
to provide a state-of-the-art Web browser user interface, while preserving the
existing "proven" KAPES functionality.
The development of the Web Client (using Microsoft .NET) is now
complete. Some functionality is achieved using the KAPES Version 9.5 code on
the server machine - this is primarily the administrative functionality and
import/export.
We are looking for a suitable
KAPES using an Oracle Database
As you are probably aware KAPES can use
either a Progress or an Oracle database. If you are already using an Oracle
database, then you may be interested to know that KAPES is being used by some
of our customers with Oracle 9.
It has also been successfully tested with
Oracle 10. If you wish to find out more please contact the
Upgrading the KAPES system in North America,
from the UK
One of our North American customers recently
asked us to upgrade their system to the latest version.
This was done using the Webex (see http://www.webex.co.uk/)
internet package. This allows us to access a PC session on our customers’ site
– the customer can view what we are doing and thus be content that we are not
causing any security problems.
The 700 Mb database was actually downloaded

KAPES Mass Update Guide
This User Guide details the original KAPES Mass Update functionality and
also includes the enhanced functionality introduced at version 09.05.00. The
guide has been issued in two parts, as the following summarises:
Part 1 is intended for general release to all users
of the system and it explains the key areas of functionality to be used for
Mass Updating Parts and Operations. It also outlines the typical sequence of
events to achieve these within KAPES.
Part 2 of the guide is intended for use by the
KAPES System Manager only and it explains the key areas of functionality
to be used during a Database Mass Update, it also outlines the typical sequence
of events to be followed in order to achieve this. This part of the guide is
not intended for general release to all users.
This guide is available free of charge to those customers on a current
KAPES Maintenance contract. Also, please note that these guides will only be
distributed to the known KAPES system manager at each company.
In addition to the above there is an article (please click here)
on how to restrict access to Mass Update. Because of the volume of changes Mass
Update can create on the database, and their resulting impact, it is imperative
that only the KAPES System Administrator Group should have access to this
functionality. Furthermore it is recommended that the procedures for Mass
Updating the KAPES database should only be attempted following attendance of
KAPES System Management and Mass Update Training Courses.
Please contact your local support office to request a copy for your company.
